Hotelier Scott Flynn lists New Farm architectural masterpiece with Palm Springs-inspired pool

Queensland property developer and hotelier Scott Flynn has placed his family home, known as Z House, on the market. The architectural masterpiece at 37 Hawthorne Street in New Farm is set to go under the hammer on May 23.

The five-bedroom residence was designed by Shaun Lockyer and reimagined eight years ago from a humble inter-war cottage. It now features a rooftop terrace with a glass-sided swimming pool that mirrors the glamour of a Palm Springs retreat.

A rooftop escape with city views

Mr Flynn describes the third-storey rooftop as a complete escape where residents can look out over the city while feeling entirely connected to the energy of Brisbane. He notes that seeing the sun set behind the CBD towers while floating in the glass pool is a surreal moment that turns the house into a living gallery of the skyline.

The residence offers breathtaking 360-degree rooftop vistas across New Farm, Newstead, Kangaroo Point, and the CBD. The property sits on an 810sq m block, which Mr Flynn says is rare for New Farm, where blocks are typically smaller.

Designed for modern family living

The home is configured into two distinct living zones: one oriented around the kids and one around entertaining. Mr Flynn says this layout has served his family exceptionally well during their three years of living there.

Upstairs houses four of the five bedrooms, including a spacious master retreat with city views, alongside a dedicated study and lounge area. Downstairs features a double garage, a guest bedroom, and a living room that opens into an open-plan dining and kitchen area leading to a covered entertaining deck with an outdoor kitchen.

“Shaun Lockyer is just so interesting in the way he uses materials, and the floorplan of this house is fantastic,” Mr Flynn said. “It’s functional, perfect for entertaining and very, very easy to live in.”

High-spec finishes and outdoor amenities

The design blends traditional and modern elements with soaring voids, signature skylights, and recessed stacker doors that invite the outdoors in. Mr Flynn states that no expense was spared in building the house, citing the next-level building specs and materials.

Beyond the house, the grounds include a pool with a viewing window, a fire pit, and a golf putting green. The property is a five-minute walk to Merthyr Village and close to New Farm Park, the riverwalk, and the CityCat ferry.

The property is jointly listed with Damon Warat of Ray White Ascot and Simon Caulfield of Place Kangaroo Point. As reported by realestate.com.au, the auction is scheduled for May 23.
