Thirty-five new constables graduated from the Queensland Police Service Academy in Oxley on 1 October, with eight of the group heading to Brisbane suburbs including Fortitude Valley.

The new officers will take up roles as First Year Constables at police stations throughout Queensland. In Brisbane, two are posted to the North district, one to Fortitude Valley and one to Indooroopilly. Six go to the South district: Annerley, Capalaba (two), Coorparoo, Inala and Moorooka.
Acting Commissioner welcomes the new constables
Acting Commissioner Brett Pointing APM said: “Graduation marks a significant milestone and the beginning of a rewarding career in service to the Queensland community.”
Constable Claudia Stiller, who is deployed to Mt Isa, said: “I’m looking forward to being deployed in rural Queensland.” Constable Kai Chin, who spent seven years as a police officer in Taiwan and is posted to Mackay, said: “The members of the QPS live their values of integrity, respect and courage.”

The remaining 27 constables are spread across five regions. The Central Region takes four officers to the Mackay Whitsunday district, with posts at Sarina, Bowen, Mackay and Proserpine. The Far Northern Region receives four: two in Cairns, one in Atherton and one in Port Douglas.
The North Coast Region gets six, split between the Moreton district (Burpengary, Caboolture, Petrie) and the Wide Bay Burnett district (Bundaberg, Gympie, Hervey Bay). The Northern Region takes eight: seven in the Townsville district and one in Mt Isa. The Southern Region’s five officers are posted across the Darling Downs district, at Toowoomba, Stanthorpe, Gatton, Kingaroy and Drayton.

The 35 new constables come from a range of backgrounds, including health, skilled trades, farming, hospitality and retail. Others are current QPS employees or former Australian Defence Force members.
