Range Brewing Brings ‘Neighbour’ to Gasworks Plaza This August
Range Brewing is set to open its fifth Brisbane venue, Neighbour, at Gasworks Plaza in Newstead this August. The new bar and dining space will take over the site previously occupied by Botany, marking a significant expansion for the local craft brewery group.
Co-founder Matt McIver confirmed the team inspected several sites across the city before settling on the Gasworks location. Although the group initially hesitated to expand within Newstead, the opportunity to join the precinct’s evolving hospitality scene proved too compelling to ignore.
A Bolder Design for the Precinct
While Range’s other neighbourhood venues, Patio in Paddington and Rays in Coorparoo, have embraced Australiana and playful youthful vibes, Neighbour aims for a distinct direction. Marketing manager Isla Northey describes the new space as bolder and edgier, while retaining the bones of a classic Australian watering hole.
The venue will be Range’s most polished outlet to date, featuring a collaboration with interior design studio Soma & Sol. The aesthetic will utilise a rich, moody palette with retro glass blocks lining portions of the bar and booths. Design elements include spotted gum timber linings, wood wool acoustic panels, and tile tops with stainless-steel edging to reflect the modern Newstead feel.
Menu and Atmosphere
Neighbour will function as a multipurpose haunt suitable for both casual beers and special occasions. The food menu will mirror the refined lunch offerings at Patio, featuring established crowd favourites alongside new, more substantial mains.
Co-founder Gerard Martin notes that the venue will serve iconic items like the parmy, ensuring the food remains good value. Guests can expect Range Brewing’s signature beers on tap, a selection of signature cocktails, and an expanded wine list to complement the dining experience.
McIver emphasised that the team’s local knowledge drives the concept. “We know this neighbourhood,” he said. “We know who lives here, how they move, and what’s been missing. That’s our superpower. Neighbour is our answer to it.”
The opening aligns with the group’s vision to reinvigorate the concept of the ‘third space’ within Brisbane’s inner-city suburbs. Neighbour joins a growing family of venues designed to offer a warm, design-led setting that pairs quality food and drinks with a relaxed atmosphere.
