Got the day off? Here’s A List of Cafes, Bars and Restaurants Trading on Labour Day

Inner-city eateries open for Labour Day long weekend

Queenslanders have been granted a public holiday for the Labour Day long weekend, with Monday 4 May marking the day off. A comprehensive list of cafes, bars and restaurants across the inner city will be trading on the public holiday. Residents in New Farm, Teneriffe, Newstead, Fortitude Valley and Bowen Hills have plenty of options for breakfast, lunch and evening drinks.

The guide covers venues ranging from early morning coffee spots to late-night bars, ensuring locals can plan their day off without hunting for open doors.

Coffee and brunch spots in Newstead and Teneriffe

For those seeking an early start, Sprout in Newstead will open from 6:00 am until 12:00 pm on the Monday public holiday. Just down the road, Yolk in Newstead is also trading, with doors opening at 7:00 am and closing at 3:00 pm. Both venues offer a reliable option for a weekend-style breakfast before the day gets busy.

In Teneriffe, Streetcorner Jimmy will be serving from 12:00 pm until late. This provides a solid lunch and early dinner option for residents in the suburb who want to avoid the CBD crowds. The venue is a popular local favourite for casual dining and will be fully operational throughout the afternoon and evening.

Fortitude Valley has a strong line-up of venues trading on the Monday holiday. Aunty on Wandoo Street will open at 11:30 am and trade until late, offering a mix of food and drinks. Nearby, Bar Kazba is scheduled to open at 12:00 pm and close at 10:00 pm.

For a later night out, Fatcow on James Street will be open from 11:00 am until late. The Prince Consort, a staple of the Valley, is also trading from 11:00 am until 3:00 am, making it one of the few venues in the area open for a full night of entertainment. Bisou Bisou will also be open from 6:30 am until late, catering to both early risers and night owls.

More options in Newstead and the CBD

Newstead residents have additional choices beyond the coffee shops. Mrs Brown’s Bar & Kitchen will be open from 11:30 am until late. Ping Pong offers a split trading session, opening from 11:30 am to 2:00 pm and then again from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm.

The Brisbane CBD also features a wide array of open venues. Bar 1603 will trade from 11:00 am until late, while Bar Miette opens later at 4:00 pm and stays open until late. For those looking for a specific dining experience, Massimo Restaurant & Bar is trading from 11:00 am until late, and Walter’s Steakhouse has two sessions: 11:30 am to 2:30 pm and 5:00 pm until late.

Other notable mentions in the city include Supernormal, Stilts, and Popolo, all of which will be open from mid-morning until late evening. The Prawnster will serve from 12:00 pm to 9:00 pm, offering a dedicated lunch and early dinner window.
