A 46-year-old man from Warwick has been charged with 18 offences, including seven counts of rape, over alleged historical sexual assault of a teenage girl in Brisbane. Detectives from the Boondall Child Protection and Investigation Unit brought the charges after probing alleged offences between 2013 and 2018.
Investigators found and took the man into custody on 10 October while he was at a campsite in Taroom, Western Downs. Police refused him bail, and he was expected to appear in Toowoomba Magistrates Court on 12 October. The release does not say what happened at that hearing.
Breakdown of the 18 historical sexual assault charges
Police allege the offences happened between 2013 and 2018 and were committed against a teenage girl known to the man. The 18 charges comprise:
Nine counts of indecent treatment of children under 16, seven counts of rape, one count of grooming of a child under 16 with intent to procure engagement in a sexual act with a child under 12, and one count of sexual assault.
Police confirmed the investigation is still active.
Police commend victim-survivor’s courage
Detective Senior Sergeant Derek Harris, Officer in Charge of the Boondall CPIU, said the case underscores the importance of reporting offences regardless of when they occurred.
DSS Harris acknowledged the extraordinary bravery required for a victim-survivor to step forward and report such offences.
Harris emphasised that police treat every report with the same seriousness, whether the incident happened recently or years ago, and urged victim-survivors to know that support services are available and they are not alone.
