Traffic and parking changes are coming to parts of Newstead and Bowen Hills for the 2026 Bridge to Brisbane fun run this weekend.
The changes will run from 2pm this Saturday (September 12) to 1pm the next day (Sunday).
More than 30,000 entries were confirmed last month with that figure expected to reach 40,000 by this Sunday.
The 10km fun run starts at 6am on Sunday from Queensport Road, Murarrie, with a 5km course starting at 10am from Kingsford Smith Drive, Hamilton.
The 10km run has sold out and the 5km is 95% sold out, the organisers’ website says.
Both events are finishing at the Brisbane Showgrounds, Bowen Hills.
Last month, Events Management Queensland CEO Ben Mannion says that reaching 30,000 entries with so much time left reveals the excitement surrounding this year’s event.
ROAD TRAFFIC CHANGES SPELT OUT
“Reaching 30,000 entries with more than a month still to go is a fantastic achievement and reinforces the incredible momentum we’re seeing ahead of this year’s 30th anniversary,” he says.
“The response from the community has been outstanding.
We’re well on track to welcome 40,000 participants in September.”
Key changes:
- Road closures and lane reductions along sections of Queensport Road, Lytton Road, Kingsford Smith Drive, Southern Cross Way, Gateway Motorway Bridge, Inner City Bypass and surrounding streets (starts at 2am).
- Changed driving conditions in Murarrie, Eagle Farm, Hamilton, Albion, Newstead and Bowen Hills from 2am-1pm.
- Temporary parking restrictions and tow-away zones in the affected areas from 2pm Saturday to 1pm, Sunday.
- Local residents’ access may be restricted at times along the event route.
- Police and traffic controllers will be on site.
- Detours and traffic management signs will be in place.
As part of the event, the AirportlinkM7 southbound and Clem7 southbound tunnels will be toll free between 4.30am and 9.30am on Sunday, September 13.
