A new owner and a room that mostly stayed put

Owner Louise Marks left a media career to open the bar. Before that she worked at Zero Fox in Teneriffe and earned a WSET wine accreditation, according to InDaily Qld. Bar Lou Lou opened in August 2026.

The hardwood bar, timber panelling, terrazzo floor and orb pendant lights from the Barry Parade Public House were kept. The old forest green scheme became burgundy and the banquette was reupholstered. The furniture is second-hand or restored.

Twelve Australian wines and a short beer list

The wine list at Bar Lou Lou is made up of 12 Australian wines, by the glass and bottle. It includes a Sigurd chenin blanc from the Barossa, a Smallfry cabernet sauvignon, an Adlib GSM, a chardonnay from M & J Becker in the Hunter Valley and a Momento Mori wine from Gippsland. The pet nats come from Granite Belt producers Konpira Maru and Dear Vincent.

On tap there is Heads of Noosa Japanese lager and Guinness. The cocktails are classics: an Aperol spritz, a Tommy’s margarita and an espresso martini.

Asian-leaning plates that are meant to be hearty

Marks wanted the food to be affordable and hearty. The menu was developed with Shaun Fugill and chef Adnane Khattabi.

Small plates include tuna tataki with a hazelnut crisp, banh mi crostini, lemongrass chicken skewers and street-style Thai loaded fries. The larger plates are kimchi roti toasties, a Japanese curry pie, a Thai Bunnings sausage (lemongrass pork mince topped with caramelised onions) and glass noodle salads.

Browse the op shop with a drink in hand

A back room at Bar Lou Lou has been turned into a miniature op shop with a curated selection of pre-loved clothing, so guests can browse while holding a drink.
