Hotel X Reimagined as The Alva Hotel Brisbane
A new chapter has begun in Fortitude Valley as IHG Hotels & Resorts introduces The Alva Hotel Brisbane. The property, formerly known as Hotel X, has officially joined the Vignette Collection. This move brings refined hospitality to one of Brisbane’s most creative neighbourhoods.
The transformation marks a shift from a standard luxury stay to a destination designed to reflect the local energy. As reported by The Hotel Conversation, the hotel now serves as a “luminous urban landmark and launchpad for discovery.” The name ‘Alva’ means light, drawing inspiration from the optimism of the precinct.
Design and Local Culture
The hotel’s evolution focuses on a deep sense of place. General Manager Daniel Gerritse told Hotel Management that the rebrand offers a richer story about Brisbane. “We’ve created a hotel that’s more connected to its neighbourhood,” Gerritse said.
Guests will find light-filled rooms designed as spaces to pause, work and recharge. The new guest rooms feature contemporary design paired with elevated comforts. Original artworks now adorn the walls, distilling the essence of Fortitude Valley into layered compositions of colour and texture.
The design palette includes warm ambers, softened blush tones, deep shadowed hues and subtropical greens. These abstract works capture the precinct’s architecture and vibrant energy. Select room categories also feature private balconies offering a peaceful retreat above the valley.
Music, Sleep and Community
Thoughtful new touches now elevate every stay. The hotel has introduced a personalised Sleep Edit complete with a pillow menu and sleep sprays. Guests can also enjoy premium Grown Alchemist amenities.
A new Sounds of Alva programme showcases Brisbane’s musical soul. Two signature suites feature record players and a handpicked vinyl collection celebrating homegrown talent. This initiative invites guests to slow down and experience the city through its soundtrack.
The hotel also encourages discovery through bespoke city guides. These curated picks feature neighbourhood cafés, bars, galleries and boutiques. In-room digital recommendations make it easy to discover what is on, with links to local gig guides and live music listings.
Dining and Rooftop Views
High above the streets, the hotel’s 15-metre rooftop pool has been refreshed. This space offers a calm urban oasis framed by panoramic city views. Guests can enjoy a quiet morning swim or sunset cocktails from the adjacent Iris Rooftop Bar & Restaurant.
The Iris Rooftop Bar & Restaurant, operated by Brisbane-based Ghanem Group Hospitality, brings vibrant Spanish-inspired flavours. Meanwhile, Bisou Bisou serves contemporary French cuisine in an elegant bistro setting.
As part of the Vignette Collection, the hotel celebrates the brand’s signature Memorable Rituals. The “Post a Moment, Post a Memory” experience invites guests to slow down and reconnect. Complimentary postcards in the lobby encourage guests to share a moment from their Brisbane stay with loved ones back home.
The hotel has also partnered with The Hotel School Australia to support the next generation of hospitality professionals. This initiative is part of the Vignette Collection’s A Means For Good programme.
