Fortitude Valley Police Crackdown Nets 48 Over Cocaine Trafficking

A major police operation targeting cocaine trafficking in Brisbane’s nightclub precinct has resulted in 48 arrests and over 90 charges. The Fortitude Valley Tactical Crime Squad launched Operation Perico following intelligence about drugs being distributed throughout the area.

According to hottomato.com.au, the investigation spanned four weekends in May. Officers seized $40,000 in cash, 169 grams of cocaine, and a knife during the operation. Charges include trafficking dangerous drugs, supplying dangerous drugs, producing dangerous drugs, and possession of a knife in a public place.

Key Arrests and Court Dates

Among those charged is a 22-year-old man from Logan Reserve, arrested on 30 May. He faces multiple drug-related offences, including trafficking and producing dangerous drugs, and is due to appear before Brisbane Magistrates Court on 3 July.

A 19-year-old man from Alderley was also charged with possession of a knife in a public place. He was due to appear in court on 12 June. These arrests were part of a broader effort to disrupt an established supplier network identified by police.

Impact on the Community

Senior Sergeant Travers Weychardt of the Fortitude Valley Tactical Crime Squad stated the operation removed a significant quantity of drugs from Brisbane streets. He emphasised that these offences are never private exchanges but impact the whole community.

“These types of offences are never simply a private exchange between two people, they impact the whole community, fuelling crime and endangering lives,” Senior Sergeant Weychardt said, as reported by hottomato.com.au.

The officer warned that anyone engaging in these offences can expect serious consequences, including criminal charges and possibly jail time. The crackdown targeted the party precinct specifically, where the alleged trafficking was occurring.

What Happens Next

Legal proceedings are now underway for the charged individuals. The 19-year-old from Alderley faced a court appearance on 12 June, while the 22-year-old from Logan Reserve is scheduled for 3 July.

Police have not indicated if further arrests will follow the initial four-week investigation. The operation concluded after the May weekends, with charges laid against all identified suspects.
