All My Friends Are Back in Brisbane Gets Extended Season at Five Star Cinemas New Farm
All My Friends Are Back in Brisbane has secured an extended run at Five Star Cinemas New Farm after its initial three sessions sold out completely. The local romantic comedy, which was shot just a few hundred metres from the cinema, is now showing through June.
The film’s world premiere at the Gold Coast Film Festival on 1 May was a sell-out success. Following that reception, director Louise Alston confirmed the decision to expand the Brisbane run to meet the high demand from local audiences.
Live Show Experience for Locals
Director Louise Alston and her partner Stephen Vagg, who wrote the script, will attend every screening to introduce the film and lead question and answer sessions. This approach transforms the movie into a part-live show, a strategy Alston says she adopted after seeing its success with other Australian films like The Correspondent and The Way, My Way.
“It’s very exciting,” Alston told FilmInk. “You make movies to watch them in a packed cinema full of people laughing and gasping, and it’s been a thrill to experience that.”
The film follows Cris, played by Nelle Lee, a lawyer who returns to Brisbane single after a decade in London. She finds herself working alongside her ex-boyfriend, Scooter, played by Andrew Steel, who is now married with a child. It serves as a spiritual sequel to the 2007 cult hit All My Friends Are Leaving Brisbane.
International Reach and Future Dates
While the New Farm screenings continue through June, the film is also heading to other cities. Screenings are scheduled at Randwick Ritz in Sydney on June 18 and at Tower Cinema in Newcastle on June 20.
Further dates include a showing at Lido Cinema in Melbourne on July 9 and a slot at the Burbank International Film Festival in Los Angeles this August. The film is currently being billed as a $13,000 production, a figure Alston notes is a challenging environment for a local production.
“We have no idea how All My Friends Are Back in Brisbane will do or where it will take us,” Alston said. “But we’re going to work as hard as we can to get the film out there and showcase the fantastic work of the cast and crew as much as possible.”
For locals in New Farm, the film is now showing at Five Star Cinemas. You can find the full schedule and book tickets via the cinema’s official page at Five Star Cinemas New Farm.
